I believe that college students learn through teaching. As a art education major, my profession alone covers the experience I need to be a tutor for children and young adults. I've also been the presidents of a National Art Honor Society, critiquing fellow students' work and giving ideas for new lesson plans, grading advice, and work habits. I am also a Delta Alpha Pi member. Delta Alpha Pi works with college students with disabilities and helping them get accustomed to college life. I am a mentor who gets in contact with a person with disabilities and I help that person through an entire semester. It's a very one-on-one plan. I enjoy the idea of helping kids learn and find it very satisfying to see them improve. I love questions and find that when a person has questions I can always find the answer. I try to be as approachable as possible by asking periodically if a person needs help, suggesting small improvements, and asking if they want to go further. I believe trying new things is a huge part of learning as it exposes a child to something they might enjoy more than before. If someone wants to paint, I would find all sorts of things they may enjoy painting or different styles for them to try. If someone wanted to draw I would find different drawing activities that would be as challenging as possible. I try to put myself at the students level in order to find what they can achieve most. But the ultimate importance in a child's learning would be that they improve through enjoying what they do, and that's what I hope to achieve.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
