About Michelle

Success in school is about reinforcement and applying the knowledge you've been given. During the beginning of the school year, many students slack off because the teacher is reviewing basic concepts or have become distracted by their friends and extracurricular activities. Parents, don't wait until the year progresses to find out your son/ daughter has missed out on the bulk of the material being taught! Send an email to find out how to get started with a tutoring session within the week. You won't regret it.

I am a tutor that's been recently relocated to the area from Miami, FL. There, I earned a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a minor in Criminal Justice and am now in the process of earning my teaching certification. I am highly recommended and very experienced, having mentored special needs foster children and have previously provided tutoring for students ages 3 and up. I have 5+ years of experience in tutoring, including over 500 hours with WyzAnt.

I provide weekend tutoring sessions for students ranging from Preschool curriculums to Undergraduate education. While math and psychology are my primary focus, I have experience in all of my qualified subjects. I have assisted with school projects (science fair projects/classroom projects), essay writing (including research papers and exploratory papers), homework assignments, and exam preparation. I also have experience with helping to write and edit admissions essays, as well as preparing students for the SAT/ ACT exams in the Fall.

"Not what I expected"

- Mayela, Miami, FL on 2/14/13
Michelle replied on 2/14/2013

Mayela, I am so sorry you feel that way. It makes me uneasy to know that after everything I've done to try and accommodate you, you were still unhappy with my services. The first session went well, and I was looking forward to working with your son. From the get- go, you were unable to afford my fee so I was happy to reduce the fee by $10 in order to better serve you. I am a full- time university student, and I tutor approximately 10 hours per week. I have six other students who are content with my services, and fortunately, I have never had an issue arise like this one. Being in school all day and then having students to attend to, I was unable to reply right away to your email. When you notified me that you would be unable to make it because of my lack of a prompt reply and the long drive you'd have to make, I kindly suggested you find a tutor who would be more suitable to achieve the expectations of you and your son.

"Excellent algebra tutor."

Thank you so much for your great feedback! I am so glad you're happy with my services. I really enjoy working with your daughter.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I took Algebra 1 while still in middle school and received a final grade of an "A". This is one of my favorite subjects to do and to teach because there is such a variety of methods for solving Algebraic problems.

College Counseling

I am currently an undergraduate university student. Before being accepted to 7 out of the 8 universities I applied to, I had completed countless hours of research on various universities and their programs. I also have experience applying for financial aid, like Florida's Bright Futures, FAFSA, and many scholarships. I can help make completing applications, writing admissions essays, and making your life- changing decisions much easier.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have tutored students from as young as 4 years old. One of my strengths is math, specifically Elementary- level math. I've also tutored in reading and writing at an Elementary level. I am involved in many extra- curricular activities involving children and believe their education is a primary priority.

Elementary Math

I have tutored several students in Elementary level math. Math is one of my favorite subjects, and I truly enjoy working with students in this subject.

English

I have taken English Language and Composition at an advanced level so I have a strong background in grammar and writing. I also have previously tutored students in English in various grade levels.

Grammar

Grammar is a fundamental part of learning. I believe every child should have the experience in learning grammar skills and basic grammar "rules". I did phenomenal in my Advanced English Language and Composition course and have taken workshops specific to grammar. I think I have what it takes to instill grammar education in you/ your child.

Prealgebra

I was an Advanced Algebra student in high school and am currently taking College Algebra so it is fresh in my mind. Math is my favorite subject, and I have a vast experience in tutoring this subject.

Proofreading

"There is always room for improvement." is a common phrase used my teachers. Proofreading is an additional set of eyes to review work and implement new ideas to improve your writing. I think I would be an asset to proofreading any of your/ your child's work.

Psychology

I am a University student, majoring in Clinical Psychology. I have taken both Psychology I and II in high school, and I passed with an "A." Continuing my education in psychology has expanded my familiarity with so much material in different areas of psychology. I have excelled at my knowledge of both old and modern psychology terms, and I am very confident in the subject. I think I would be a valuable asset to anyone who needs help in psychology.

Reading

Reading is a fundamental part of learning any subject. I believe that reading is the limelight to success and without it, there will be immense struggle. When tutoring in reading, I make sure students thoroughly understand what they're reading and they fully comprehend the surrounding material. I emphasize the use of context clues and inference clues.

SAT Writing

My junior year in high school, I passed AP Language and Composition with an "A". During the final two years of high school, I had written such a plethora of multiple varieties of writing. These include: essays, research papers, summaries, and proposals. In my opinion, writing is such a crucial part of earning an education and is a fundamental part of the SAT. I have excellent grammar skills, a strong vocabulary, and a lot of experience in tutoring writing. I took my SAT only one time and exceeded the 2012 averages in each portion of the test, making me confident that I will be an asset in your child's success.

Study Skills

I am a current university student who has always maintained good study habits, and I would be an asset in helping you/ your child study as well. Many people are passive learners and are used to memorizing before tests. What is more crucial to memorizing is understanding. I'd be thrilled to be an additional motivator to you/ your child.

Vocabulary

As a university student, I have a wide range range of vocabulary. Each day is an opportunity to learn more and expand my word bank. As a tutor, I will implement the lessons I was taught to expand my vocabulary. Vocabulary is not about knowing a word and how to spell it, it's about understanding the word and creating meaning to the word. As a tutor, I'd help you/ your child "understand" their vocabulary.

Writing

I have passed AP Language and Composition and have written such a huge variety of essays, research papers, summaries, etc. In my opinion, writing is such a crucial part of education. I have excellent grammar skills, a strong vocabulary, and much experience tutoring.
