I am an experienced Spanish tutor, native speaker, levels I-V. I have taught and tutored middle, high school and college students attending both public and independent schools in the area, as well as home-schooled students. Therefore, I am familiar with various textbooks and curriculum. I have tutored college students attending Towson University and Loyola University. I have worked with students that have language learning difficulties, and use a multi-sensory approach to learning whenever needed. I also use a variety of resources and techniques (including visual, audio, etc.) to help students. I attended an All Kinds Of Minds workshop (incorporates brain research into teaching) and became certified by the College Board to teach AP Spanish Language. I am currently working on a Master of Arts in Teaching. I enjoy using technology in instruction whenever it enhances learning, and have bookmarked a number of online resources to facilitate lessons or for extra enrichment and/or practice.
I also welcome home-schooled students since I am most flexible on weekdays during the day! Individual or small-group lessons can be arranged; special rate for small groups! My son says "what I really like about her is that she teaches the way I learn". I have seen big improvements not only in his grades but in his attitude to tutoring! She explains the workings of another language really well.
Thank you so much for your feedback! It has been a pleasure working with your son, and I am glad to hear that he is benefitting from my tutoring.
Selma is the best Spanish teacher you could find in the Baltimore area for levels of Spanish 4 and 5 (AP Spanish) for high school students. If you are students in level 4, and preparing for SAT Subject Spanish Test, then she is definitely the teacher you would like to have. She can pinpoint the issues students are facing. My daughter has taken her lessons for 7 weeks and likes her very much. We would like to use her again if we have time. Thank you, Selma!
Selma was very patient and thorough with my son. He really liked her a lot. We used her to help study for his Spanish mid-term exam. His grade on is mid-term exam was better than any of his test grades over the semester. That is definitely a testament to Selma's work with him. We will use her again! Very punctual and flexible.
Thank you so much Dawn, its been a pleasure to work with your son! I hope he keeps doing well. I appreciate your feedback very much.
Selma brings extra worksheets to help my son with the specific lessons that he is working on during the tutoring session. She is very organized!!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
