I have been a professional math and science tutor for almost ten years. I have worked with students of varying age groups and levels with a focus on Algebra and beyond. I engage students with daily course work in their respective subjects, and am able to assist with advanced independent projects. Furthermore, I have tutored students in preparation for standardized tests such as the SAT and GRE with proven success. A good example of this is when I tutored my personal friend in preparation for the GRE. She received a higher grade on the math portion of the exam than the on the verbal (something she has never accomplished on a standardized test).
I work to provide a relaxed atmosphere so my students are comfortable and receptive to learning. To facilitate this I always have a relaxed positive attitude and I encourage questions and feedback. I always explain multiple methods for problem solving to find the best method for each student. When possible, I use visual and real world examples for problems and relate them to the students interest and knowledge.
I am a visual learner so I'm particularly am adept at explaining concepts to learners of that style, but I am also able to adapt my style to other learning styles. I have experience working with students who have learning disabilities such as ADD/ADHD and dyslexia.
I have excellent interpersonal skills from years of experience in customer service as well as a natural affinity for math and science. I enjoy traveling and have visited almost every state in the U.S, but my favorite destination has been the U.S. territory of St. John in the Virgin Islands.
Although I am not fluent in Spanish, I have tutored ESL students in the past. I have a working knowledge of Spanish which have been helpful when tutoring students that have difficulties with English.
Additionally I have the ability to read and write upside-down which has been very helpful while tutoring.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
