I am an experienced educator who enjoys teaching children. I went to college to become a teacher in elementary which I also specialized in special education. My experiences have some elementary and mostly 6th middle school subjects. Reading strategies became my love because I could utilize them in Science, Social Studies and even Math which enabled students to process the information more readily.
Mostly, learning and attending classes to gain more understanding to present students with information ignited me to continue take these strategies back to the classroom to implement. I wanted to continue growing educationally so that I could be the best teacher ever. Retiring has given me the option to continue utilizing my skills in a small setting or individually.
My third college is Goucher where I am 6 credits from having an actual reading certificate. Learning the intricate steps involved in the process of reading is amazing. These steps are the core of learning how to read: print awareness, phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing. One of my classes recently also taught students how to write using the 6 traits. I can't wait to use those again...It makes writing so much fun!
My qualifications with special needs involves understanding that processing deficits that students exhibit whether they are autistic, leaning disabled, ADHD or otherwise. I have taken several classes recently dealing with differentiation of instruction to meet various students' needs. I continue to take classes associated with autism as research has proceeded with much more usable strategies. I am a highly qualified Special Educator.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
