For the past 18 years, I have been a professional statistician in governmental and academic settings. Regarding educational credentials, I have dual bachelors degrees in accounting and mathematics, a masters degree in Biostatistics, and I am currently a PhD candidate in Biostatistics. I am comfortable with all aspects of statistics including applied, theoretical, and computer programming. I have approximately 20 years of SAS programming experience, 15 years of STATA programming experience, and seven years of R as well as SPSS programming experience. My statistical programming experience includes data management as well as statistical analysis. While there are several aspects of statistics that are applicable to many different disciplines, my work experience and educational background is primarily in the field of medicine and public health. Therefore, my expertise may be most useful to individuals studying/working in those areas.
Although on an intermittent basis, I have provided statistical and programming support to individuals writing doctoral dissertations, as well as students taking AP statistics and GRE Math preparations. Also, based on my work experience, I have conducted workshops regarding statistical analysis and interpretation as well as statistical programming. I enjoy helping people learn about mathematics and statistics. Statistics requires a slightly different way of thinking than is encountered in other aspects of mathematics. I feel I am a very patient instructor, and I hope to take at least some of the mystery away in reference to statistics.
I have always had an interest in mathematics, so I believe that is important to be able to communicate important principles and concepts. Through my undergraduate and graduate studies, I have spent many years as a student. Therefore, I can understand some of the difficulties that students can face in the study of mathematics; I probably have went through some of them myself.
I have several years of experience with a variety of statistical software packages; it is always useful to have multiple ways to solve a problem. While I have used SAS, STATA, R, and SPSS for many years, I have not had any formal training in any of these packages; rather, I have self-taught myself all of these languages. Therefore, I can provide a unique perspective to the use of statistical software and communicating that information to potential students.
While my work experience is primarily in the statistical field, I am also available for tutoring a variety of mathematical subjects including algebra, pre-calculus, geometry, and trigonometry, as well as ACT/SAT math preparation.
At the present time, I am only doing in-person tutoring conducted at a public library within my general travel radius (e.g., Annapolis/Crofton/Edgewater/Bowie). For the past 18 years, I have been a professional statistician in governmental and academic settings. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am currently a PhD candidate in Biostatistics, and I also have a M.S. degree in Biostatistics. I have approximately 15 years of experience as a biostatistician in governmental and academic settings. In addition, I have significant experience in all aspects of data management and statistical analysis using a variety of statistical software (e.g., SAS, R, STATA, SPSS, SUDAAN).
I have approximately 20 years of work experience using SAS in governmental and academic settings. My experience includes all aspects of data management, such as data step programming and PROC SQL. In addition, I am accomplished in several aspects of statistical analysis using SAS including descriptive statistics as well as statistical modeling procedures. My SAS knowledge also includes the used of macros as well as PROC IML. In addition, I have over 10 years of experience in the analysis of large-scale survey data as well as high-dimensional data.
