I am an experience educator and tutor. I’ve worked in both private in public schools in New York City, Washington, DC and Virginia. I enjoy working with young students and helping them reach their potential. I am an avid reader (mostly I enjoy reading non-fiction). I have worked with general education students (grades 1-6) and students with special needs (grades Pre K-12). Literacy is my area of expertise as reading/writing has always been my preferred subject even as a student. My students describe me “as no nonsense, nurturing, supportive and caring.” I have high expectations for myself and those I work with but always will encourage you to do your best.
I have more than 13 years of experience teaching students strategies that good readers use. I have taking multiple classes in undergraduate and graduate school that involved teaching students how to read and write. I have previous experience working as a tutor with a focus on developing students literacy skills. Finally, I am a former Literacy/Instructional Coach.
I will encourage you to work with me if you are prepared to work hard to become a better reader. If you are looking for a firm but supportive tutor please contact me. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
