University of Maryland University College (English Literature)
My love for teaching reading and writing stems from my own schooling. There were so many teachers and mentors who pushed me to be the best that I could be. I want to do the same for others. English Literature is my passion and is what I earned my degree in from UMUC. History is my other love and I cannot wait to show students that History can be as exciting as the other core subjects. I have extensive experience working with students as I have been working with kids in different capacities for the past eight years ranging in ages from six months old to eighteen years old.
I know that students have different strengths when it comes to school, whether that be Math, History, Science, English, or the Arts. Just because a student does not naturally excel in a subject does not mean that they are stupid or cannot excel because certain topics may be harder than others. I have seen so many kids give up on themselves because no one would believe in them or take the time to explain the material to them. I want to be that voice of encouragement to students and look forward to helping your child be the best they can be and really come to love to read and write.
I have a bachelor's degree in English Literature and have been writing professionally and unprofessionally since I was a freshman in high school and discovered how much I loved it.
If I did not love English as much as I did, I would have earned my degree in History. I particularly enjoy European, African, and American History. I have taken and excelled in multiple History classes in college and am so excited to share that passion with your student.
Whether you are a parent or student, I encourage you to email me to learn more about what I can bring to the table as a tutor. I am more than willing to cater to your learning needs. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught, mentored, and led small groups for middle and high school students in Bay Area Student Ministry at Bay Area Community Church for the past two and a half years. During that time I have studied the Bible under the leadership of multiple men and women, including our lead pastor. I am excited to share this knowledge with my students!
With a degree in English literature and a passion for the written word, I have helped multiple children discover their passion for reading. As the oldest of five, I have helped my parents get my own siblings to learn to love books as much as I do. I have also had experience in teaching elementary aged students reading skills and look forward to doing the same with your child.
