Hello! My name is Peter and I am a Lifeskills teacher at a local high school. I absolutely love my job and working with special needs students. At the high school I also coach swimming, direct a play every year and I am an adviser for our Best Buddies program. As a Lifeskills teacher I have experience teaching all core subjects and helping my students learn about social skills, adult daily living skills, fitness, money, time and just about anything else under the sun. My favorite thing to teach is something I created called Extreme Lifeskills, which is all about problem solving and team building. It's my personal belief that if you have a teacher who makes their students feel safe, confident and laugh then you can learn anything.
Some personal things about me: I love to read. My favorite authors are Stephen King and Kurt Vonnegut. I love to write my own stories/plays. I love listening to all types of music and watch all types of movies. I enjoy being outside and active. I also love naps.
I am patient and try very hard to makes my students laugh. I feel with humor you can do great things. Learning should be fun and it is quite easy to make it so. I also have a ton of experience working with many different types of special needs, extreme and mild.

Very productive session. Peter did an excellent job reviewing my work and providing constructive feedback and direction. We had a great discussion about the next step in writing a quality essay. I highly recommend him.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am currently the Lifeskills teacher at Leominster High School. I have worked in special education for the past five years in many different settings. I have experience working with students who have ADD/ADHD along with other disabilities. I am currently in my second year of graduate school at Fitchburg University for a Masters degree in Severe Special Education.
My work in a High School Life Skills classroom affords me the opportunity to work with students of many abilities. I currently have 5 students on the Autism Spectrum with varying levels of functionality. We utilize ABA techniques and a variety of coping mechanisms for each student. I have worked with these current students for 2 years, and look forward to tutoring or mentoring others with similar needs.
English is one of my favorite subjects to teach. I taught English for one year and I am certified to teach English in Massachusetts. I have passed the Massachusetts MTEL in English for high school.
I am an avid reader and it is my favorite hobby. I currently have my teacher's certification in High School English grades 9-12. Personally I feel reading is so important and should be taught to everyone.
I have worked with students who have special needs for the past five years. I began my work with students who have emotional/behavioral disabilities in a therapeutic residential setting. I was trained in specific methods to de-escalate a student in distress. From there, I began working with students who have intellectual disabilities varying from cognitive impairments to Down Syndrome. I hope to be able to assist students who may need a little extra help outside of the academic setting.
As an avid reader and certified High School teacher I have a plethora of words I can draw upon to help teach. As a special needs teacher I know many techniques to help find the meaning of a word using context clues and parts of the word.
Writing in one of my favorite hobbies. I am also a certified High School English teacher and have passed the MTEL on reading and writing.
