About Amy

My love of teaching comes from a love of coaching, which is where my teaching strategy stemmed from. After volunteering as a little league softball coach for over 6 years, I went to Bridgewater State University to study English education. As an undergraduate, I worked as a tutor-counselor for the national education program Upward Bound, where I tutored high school students preparing for the SAT, ACT, and MCAS. After graduating from BSU with a bachelor's degree in English and becoming a licensed English teacher for grades 5-12, I began working in a few school districts, most recently as an English teacher at the Collaborative for Educational Services. Currently, I am pursuing my master's degree in teaching at Northeastern University. My teaching style is to assess student strengths and to build upon what students already know by scaffolding new concepts through routine lessons and practice. Subjects that I currently tutor are reading, writing, mathematics, and SAT prep for grades 5-12.

Services I provide are:

Personal Lessons
$45 per hour
Personal lessons are ideal for students who are behind in their classwork, at risk of falling behind, or are simply not grasping a subject. With personal lessons, I will create individualized lessons that reflect the student’s unique needs. The first lesson will be an introductory meeting, in which the tutor, student, and parent will create goals and objectives for student learning and progress, and the tutor will design responsive lessons that reflect those goals.

Paper Review
$20 per paper, online
$30 per paper, in-person
Paper review is ideal for high school students in ELA classes, AP classes, or are drafting college entrance essays. I will review the paper that the student has written and provide constructive feedback as well spelling and grammar checks. This service can be performed either in-person or online. Price includes on-going draft reviews until student and parent are satisfied with paper.

For Homeschoolers:
Ongoing English and Writing Classes
$45 per hour, or $10 per student, minimum 4 students.
This service is for on-going classes for individuals or small groups. This service is more reflective of a typical English or writing class, with daily lesson plans and a curriculum that align with current state standards. Ideal for homeschool groups and co-ops!

I look forward to meeting you and to building a bright future together!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

English

I received my bachelors degree in English from Bridgewater State University and I am currently pursuing my master's degree in teaching from Northeastern University. I am a licensed English Language Arts teacher for grades 5-12.
