I am a teacher and tutor at heart and have experience in dealing with students, from as young as 11 to as old as 23 years of age. I am empathetic and patient, and like to teach the 'why' instead of the 'what' - I like students to understand why they are being taught certain techniques or skills, rather than simply learning these simply because they are told to. I also see students as human beings. Because of this I feel motivated in my teaching and feel sincere pleasure when students achieve greater results - which they often have (not to be arrogant!)
I am extremely adjustable and can suit the times and locations that you require. I am a 26 year old male with an MA in History and plan on going back to University to complete a PhD next year. I provide consistent assessments and progress reports.
I have taught English at High School level at an renowned private school - I have also tutored a variety of students privately. I have particular experience with helping students with their writing, as well as textual analysis or poems and various other spheres of literature.
I have an MA in History and it is my passion. I have worked as a Teacher's Assistant at the University of Cape Town in South Africa (a university continuously rated in the top 200 in the world), where I had to teach my own classes on a bi-weekly basis. I have also taught History at a Junior and High School level, and have tutored multiple students, who have all seen their grades rise.
I was a provincial chess champion back in South Africa! I have experience teaching newcomers/intermediate chess players who want to learn tips/strategies to the game, or who simply want to play chess for fun.

Thomas has been an awesome writing tutor and a motivator. He provides you with the support and resource you need, to excel as the student. He's patient when helping you figure out the problem, but also challenges me to be more confident when writing. He's excellent at communicating with me about when and if it's possible to meet. I look forward to learning more when meeting with him.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have played chess at a provincial level during high school, and have maintained my love of the game. I still play regularly, and have enjoyed playing with friends who are newer to chess. I would work around understanding 'why' certain movements in chess are good (territorial control, pressure and pace) rather than merely teaching a few tricks.
I taught English at a prestigious high school for one year - teaching students between the ages of 13-15. I set up all lessons and assignments within ybis period, so am familiar with what teachers are looking for and how processes through which students can improve their grades. I also studied English at university level.
I taught World History between grades 6 and 9 at a school split between two campuses. I designed and graded courses for topics ranging from Egyptian and Roman History to Modern History (WW1, WW2, the UN, and various African histories such as Congolese and Sudanese). I also have a Masters degree in History from the University of Cape Town where I tutored various students, for a private tutoring company and for the University.
I have an MA in History from the University of Cape, for which i recieved a distinction. I have taught English, grades 8-10, at a prestigious Cape Town high school, focusing both in creative and argumentative writing styles. I have privately tutored many students on the art of writing a good essay (which follows a certain formulaic structure), and have additionally tutored dozens of students for the University of Cape Town - helping students improve their essays and general writing approach.
