About Ivy

My love for teaching results from my appreciation for the value of an education. I am currently attending Williams College, a small liberal arts school, where I am planning to be a biology major while fulfilling premed requirements. One of the main reasons I would love to go into the field of medicine is because I would love to help others by spreading the knowledge I am equipped with. As I am still a student, I am very aware of the challenges and rigor that comes with course work. This gives me a special kind of skill that allows me to be able to relate to those who I am tutoring and provide the patience and support that is needed for successful learning!

In college, my friends often come to me for help with understanding difficult concepts we are learning in class. Although I am not an actual paid tutor in school, I have 2-3 group sessions with my friends before every exam in which I help clear any confusion on the topics we are studying. Nothing gives me greater pleasure than when everyone in the study group has a smile on their face because what was once an obstacle in their studying has been overcome and understood. In high school, I served as an AP Biology tutor for one year.

As aforementioned, I believe there is no greater moment in learning than the moment in which a difficult concept finally becomes clear. Through the years, I have learned that this moment can be reached in various ways. This being said, I will be by the side of whoever I'm tutoring to guide them through whichever method will allow them to finally understand a topic, whether this means going through hundreds of practice problems step by step or simply talking through a confusing topic.

I have taken Biology 101 and 102 in college and I received a 5 on my AP Biology exam in High School. I also received a score of 780 on the Biology SAT Subject Test. Bio is my favorite subject and I love helping others understand it so that they may love it as much as I do!! I have taken general chemistry and organic chemistry in college. I really found organic chemistry interesting and I found that it was a subject that was easier understood by going through topics aloud with another student or a study group. I would love to help decipher any confusing topics by talking them through with you!

I really loved pre algebra as this was the time when my liking for math developed. I often helped my friends understand problems that were challenging. I frequently helped my 10 year old cousin with her math homework so I have some experience working with someone her age in regard to pre algebra. I have also always done really well in the grammar sections of my standard exams such as the SAT. My love for reading has allowed me to have a keen eye for correct structure and syntax in sentences which allows me to be able to explain grammar rules!

I, overall, am just very willing to help elucidate any confusion one may have with any of the subjects that I am qualified to tutor. I love all of the subjects and would make it my MISSION for whoever I'm tutoring to love them as well (or, at least, perfectly understand them) :).

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
