About Terry

I am a certified elementary teacher and a certified reading specialist. I have been a teacher for 25 Years. I have taught grades 2-6. I am presently teaching second grade in the public sector. I teach reading, writing, spelling, vocabulary, handwriting, math, social studies, and science. Last year, I received a master of education in reading.

Administering assessments are an important part of getting to know a student's skill level. After assessing a student, I would know where to begin teaching. I would teach a student to be actively engaged while learning. I believe students have a better chance of success when they actively participate in their education. Examples of active participation include selecting one's own books to read, using math manipulatives to solve problems, and participating in science experiments. Active engagement in learning provides student motivation and enjoyment. Assessment needs to be ongoing to insure progress. I would provide regular assessments before progressing to the next skill level in any given subject.

I look forward to working with your student.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Excellent Reading Tutor

We hired Terry to provide reading lessons for our 7 year old son over the summer with the goal of helping him prepare for the 2nd grade, and could not have been happier with her skill and passion for teaching. When we first decided to look into hiring a tutor, we researched several in the that had excellent credentials and experience. We then met with two of them to get a better sense of the pr
