About Catherine

Hello! I am Catherine, and I am a 2014 graduate (cum laude) from Williams College in western Massachusetts who majored in biology and psychology. Currently I'm working in a research laboratory in the University of Massachusetts Medical School, located in Worcester, MA. In terms of my experience with tutoring academic subjects, I tutored in the Academic Resources departments at Williams College for various math and science classes, such as biology, general chemistry, neuroscience, and organic chemistry. In addition, I obtained perfect scores on both the ACT Math, ACT Science sections, and SSAT Math sections.

With regards to my skills outside of academics, I have been playing cello since I was a child. I was a member of the Maryland All-State Orchestra for all four years of high school, and was a member of the American Philharmonic Orchestra in northern Virginia since middle school, culminating in a co-principal chair in my last years of high school. In addition, I have participated in my high school orchestra and chamber orchestras, and I have played in the Berkshire Symphony Orchestra, which is based at Williams College. On the other hand, I started swimming at a young age, and was a member of both club swimming and my high school varsity swimming team.

My hobbies, aside from cello and swimming, also include cooking, knitting, reading, and traveling.

With each tutee that I have, I adjust to find ways that would help the tutee best understand the material that they seek to learn, and I am adaptive to the different tutoring needs that each tutee requires. I am patient and understanding, and am willing to drive within a 20 mile radius from my home in Worcester, MA. I hope I can help you all meet your math and science academic needs! Please feel free to send me a message if you have any questions.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I obtained a 35 on the math section when I took the ACT in one try. Even today, I have a very strong foundation in the mathematics concepts that are covered the ACT math section, and can help any tutee grasp these concepts as well and ace the section. If you have any questions, please feel free to message me, and I will tutor you on any of your ACT math needs!

ACT Science

In the one time that I took the ACT in high school, I obtained a perfect 36 on the ACT science section. Especially since I was also a biology major and a student on the premedical track during my time at college, I have a strong foundation in all the hard sciences, and have the knowledge needed to help you propel forward and ace the ACT science section. If you have any questions or would like to set up an appointment, feel free to send me a message, and I hope I can meet your tutoring needs!

I graduated cum laude from Williams College in 2014 with honors in biology, and have obtained As in the majority of my college biology classes. In addition, I am on the premedical track, which involves having a solid understanding of basic concepts in biology. I have also tutored in college level biology while I was at Williams College, so I have the experience necessary to tutor anyone who needs additional help with understanding biological concepts.

I am a Chinese American who learned Chinese as her first language and is fluent in all aspects of modern Chinese. In addition, I was an academic tutor for beginner, intermediate, and advanced spoken and written Chinese. More specifically, I have experience with teaching grammar, tones, pronunciation, and basic writing with Chinese to students in all levels of Chinese.

Organic Chemistry

I have taken both beginning and intermediate organic chemistry at College as part of the premedical track. In addition, I have received an A- and an A in both difficulty levels of the class, respectively, and subsequently became both a grader and an academic tutor for the class during the rest of my time in college. Since this subject is especially hard for many students, I would like to give the knowledge I gained to students struggling with it.

I was a psychology major at Williams College, and I have obtained As in all psychology courses that I have taken. My two major subfields of interest are neuroscience, social psychology, and developmental psychology. I was a neuroscience teaching assistant while at college, and have taken higher level college courses in both social and developmental psychology. If your tutoring needs lie outside of these fields, however, I can still be of help since I have learned all of the basic concepts in other subfields such as cognitive psychology and psychological disorders. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions!
