Spanish comes natural to me. I was born in Puerto Rico and speak fluent Spanish. For those interested in learning to speak and write Spanish, we can start with the basics and move on to advanced. For those of you in a Spanish class, I can help you study and practice. You will surprise yourself when you realize with a little practice, it will be natural for you too!
I have been employed with the Worcester Public Schools over 6 years, and currently work with special education at the middle school level. I’m new to WyzAnt Tutoring, but I am confident that my skills in SPED, Spanish and baseball would be of great help to interested students. I have passed the MTEL of the Massachusetts teaching license and am currently preparing for the Math Subject test.
I have coached Special Olympics softball in Worcester for 6 years and understand special needs very well. The Master’s Degree I am pursuing is in Special Education. I have the patience to help students with learning disabilities such as ADD and ADHD with middle school math homework.
I've been a Worcester resident since 1969 when I first moved here from New York City. I attended the Worcester Public Schools, then the University of Massachusetts (Amherst), and graduated in 1979 with a degree in Education with a Minor in Juvenile Justice. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Hi! My name is Al R. and I am interested in teaching and helping young baseball prospects become better and improve their baseball skills. I am very knowledgeable in training in the areas of proper mechanics and fundamentals of baseball as I've learned it growing up. I am currently coaching Special Olympics Softball and work with physically and mentally challenged individuals through Seven Hills Inc. in Worcester, MA. I have coached the past five years and enjoy it a great deal. Baseball has been a pastime in my family for many years. Some of my family members have played professional baseball in Puerto Rico.
I played baseball in High School, Senior Babe Ruth, men's softball leagues for many years, and also, the over 30 baseball league from 1994 to 2001. I have coached several years at the Roberto Clemente League in Worcester, and won three championships. In 2006, I coached Chocksett Middle School in Sterling MA., and the team ended the season tied for first with an 11-1 record. I also assisted in coaching my son through Little League and Babe Ruth baseball.
Small changes in your mechanics can make a huge difference in improving your skills and ability to play baseball. Let me help you boost your game by a notch or two.
Certified in Spanish
Hi! My name is Al R. and I am interested in becoming certified in Special Needs tutoring. I am a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, with a degree in Education. I worked for 20 years with the Department of Youth Services before switching careers and joining the school system in 2006. I worked as an Instructional Assistant with Special Needs students at Chocksett Middle School in Sterling, MA.. Then I transferred to the Worcester Public Schools where I've continued to work in the same capacity. I have serviced students with ADD/ADHD, Aspergers, and Autism throughout the years. I also did summer school in 2011 at Gates Lane School in Worcester, MA. I worked specifically with students with Aspergers and Autism. This past year (2011-2012), I worked one-on-one with a student in life skills. I will work with this student again this coming year.
Also, I have taken a graduate course (Introduction to Special Education) at American International College in Springfield, MA. My school status is currently on hold because of financial reasons.
Children with Special Needs and certain Learning Disabilities require a great deal of attention and sometimes nurturing to help them cope with their everyday life issues. These are some of the strengths and skills I provide when working with children with Special Needs.
