Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADHD

I have worked very successfully with several students diagnosed with ADD/ADHD. I helped an 8th grade student bring his grades up from C's and D's to A's and B's. His mother is a psychologist and I helped him get an IEP for middle school. I have helped many children with this problem. I took a course in Helping Children with Special Needs for my PDP's in MA Certification. I also took a Graduate Class at UMass/Amherst in Helping Gifted and Talented Students with Exceptions. Many students with this disorder are very talented and smart.

Algebra 1

I am Certified in Middle School Math and help students of all ages in Math. That is my favorite subject and I have helped so many students with very learning disabilities including ADHD. I have been very successful!

Career Development

I taught at Quinsigamond Community College for two years. I taught Microapplications for the Computer. This program was for unwed mothers. I also coached students on various jobs that they were qualified for. Also, when I tutor high school students, I always ask their plans and dreams after graduation. I want to make sure they are prepared to go to college or work but most importantly, I want them to graduate high school! I have a lot of knowledge about the SAT,GRE, PSAT, and MCAS tests.

Desktop Publishing

I received a Certificate in Computer Graphics from Rhode Island School of Design Continuing Education in 2003. I studied Quark Express, Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver and several other classes. We had to present a portfolio of our work to earn the Certificate. It was very demanding and I took the classes in the Continuing Education at night.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a MA Certified Elementary School Teacher Grades K-8 with a specialization in Middle School Math and Instructional Technology for all levels.

Homeschool

I studied education at UMASS in Amherst, Ma. I have several years of teaching at both public schools for K-8, Computer science for grade 5 and tutoring students in all subjects except foreign languages and advanced math. I tutored students at Milford High School to pass the MCAS and also at Bellingham Primavera School. I taught summer school for Math at Mendon Middle school and also in Bellingham, MA. I have a good grasp of all the subjects in grades K-8. I have a good knowledge of most middle and high school subjects also. I have taught at Elementary Schools, Middle Schools and at Quinsigamond Community College. I was an Adjunct Professor there for 2 years in Microcomputer Applications. I have learned how to develop my own curriculum and have tutored for 20 years.

Macintosh

I have worked in computer support at various universities and colleges in Massachusetts. I was the Macintosh computer specialist at Tufts Veterinary School for 6 months (a contract) and also at Boston College for 3 months. I have been working with Macintosh computers since I graduated college in 1978. I also was the Help desk Specialist at Assumption College which had several Macintosh labs. I love the Mac and Steve Jobs was an amazing individual who changed the way people listen to music and live their lives!

Microsoft Windows

I worked in Desktop Support for both Windows and Macintosh systems and applications for 10 years. I got my Master of Education in Computer Science from Worcester State University. I learned 4 programming languages: Pascal, Basic, Fortran and Cobol. I was the Windows Specialist at Whitehead Institute for 2 years. I used to repair Windows operating systems and the applications. I am able to help with both Macintosh and Windows Operating Systems.

Phonics

I am a MA Certified Elementary School Teacher for Grades K-8. I did my student teaching in 3rd grade where they used phonics to help students learn to read. I am experienced with this and have helped many students, no only English speaking, how to read.

Study Skills

I am an experienced Elementary and Middle School Teacher. I got my B.A. from University of Massachusetts in Amherst. I got my M.Ed. in Computer Science from Worcester State University. I have been tutoring students for the last 20 years. One of the most important aspects of doing well academically, is to have good study habits and to be organized. I am very good at this and get mainly A's in my classes. I teach the great study skills I have to my students. Subsequently, I see them succeed which makes tutoring very rewarding.
