About Virginia Autumn

I have a M.Ed in Special Education and I am a MA licensed special needs and elementary teacher. I have been tutoring the Wilson Reading System (phonic-based program) for eight years to dyslexic students and young learners.

I now tutor all subject areas, except high level math and science for students K-12. I teach to the student's learning style and have years of experience working with learning disabled students, especially language-based. Recently, I have been working with students on the Autism/Aspergers spectrum.

I make learning fun and can provide glowing references from satisfied students and parents. Learning should be an adventure and rewarding. I keep changing teaching styles until I find the right fit for your child so they will enjoy tutoring. When a student starts feeling confident from understanding the subject, it makes a huge difference in their school experience and self-esteem.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADHD

I have a Masters of Education, Moderate Special Needs. I have taught many ADHD students and had excellent results using reward based strategies and re-direction. I have a style that is not overly authoritative or too unassertive. I set high expectations for my students and give abundant praise for following directions.

I am a former teacher and a full time tutor for private and public schools. I have worked with students from K-12 and adult education.
