About Christine

I'm a professional writer and editor with an undergraduate degree in history from Carnegie Mellon University. My passion for learning is something that I love to share, and I'm often told "you're such a great teacher" and "you make things so easy to understand." I'm not only interested in content matter but also in how we learn and understanding the different approaches that work for different people.

I believe that people learn better when they're interested and engaged and the material has relevance to them. Rather than rote memorization or straight repetition, I've found that simple tricks such as the use of mnemonics, self-quizzing and changing of context can enhance learning. People can also become frustrated when they don't know how to learn, a skill that isn't always taught in school but should be. Maybe they don't know how to look something up, seek additional information on a subject, make connections or ask for help. These are the types of things I look for when tutoring someone, so they will be able to continue to work independently.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Very patient! — I love to work with Christine. She is a very patient tutor and always asks me what I expect from her in tutoring. Sometimes I need an immediate help for my papers. But even thought the schedule is tight, she gave me the maximum help that she could do. Her advice is always specific and clear. Most importantly, she encouraged me a lot to study in English! Highly recommended. ...
