In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Although most of my teaching experience has been in the area of special education, I also hold a MA teaching certification in the area of elemetary education. Many of my hours are spent consulting with regular education teachers, and accommodating the regular curriculum to meet the needs of special education students. Because of this, I feel I am highly qualified to teach k-6th grade regular education subjects. My masters of education degree is also in the area of general education. I look forward to tutoring elementary students in a variety of subject areas and grade areas.

Teaching phonics is a very important part of teaching readng. As a certified special education teacher, and elementary education teacher, I feel that I am highly qualified to teach phonics to students. I have trained in a variety of mutli-sensory phonetic reading programs, and use them daily in my teaching. Many students who are second language learners or learning disabled require extra instruction in the area of phonics. This helps students to improve both reading and spelling skills. I look forward to tutoring your student in this area of reading.
