Graduated Summa Cum Laude, Rhode Island College, Feinstein School of Education (Elementary Education)
Framingham State University (Master's)
Having taught every age group from pre-K to middle school to graduate level courses, I have a passion for teaching and helping others see their potential.
I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Rhode Island College in 2005 with a BA in Elementary Education. I am now certified in Massachusetts in Elementary Education, grades 1-6, and Middle School Mathematics, grades 5-8. I currently teach 6th grade math during the day and enjoy coaching 2 Lego Robotics teams after school. In 2014, I earned my Master's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Education from Framingham State University. After graduating, I was asked back teach the Art of Engineering Design at FSU to prospective teachers as part of the STEM program. I love working with creative, energetic new teachers!
I work diligently in the public schools to provide quality STEM learning opportunities for my students. I believe in an active environment that promotes hands-on learning experiences to keep students engaged. My efforts in the classroom and in the community have earned me national recognition in recent years. In 2010, I was one of only 16 teachers nation wide to win an internship with NASA at Langley Research Center in Virginia. In 2011, I was honored by Raytheon Corporation as the Massachusetts Math Hero. And just last year I was one of 102 teachers recognized by President Obama at the White House as a winner of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching.
I always encourage my students to work hard and never back down from a challenge, because you never know where the road may lead!
I am certified in both Elementary Education and Middle School Math. I also hold a Master's degree in STEM. I have 9 years of math teaching experience in the public schools.
I have been teaching mathematics using the new Common Core state standards for the past three years.
Creating active, hands-on interdisciplinary learning experiences for my students is a passion. I want my students to see the connection between what they are learning in my room and the world outside my classroom doors. I am a highly accredited educator, with an active license for grades 1-6.
Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions. I am available to tutor on weekends and school vacations. I do have a 24 hour cancellation policy, but am willing to schedule make up sessions if needed. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
