I graduated with a degree in Mathematics from Mass College of Liberal Arts in 1999. I am board certified to teach middle school mathematics. Over the past 5 years I have tutored students of all ages in areas ranging from pre-algebra to statistics. I have also done a lot of SAT prep as well as some brushing up before job interviews.
My concentration in college, as well as my areas of expertise now, are in all areas of Algebra, Geometry, and Calculus. I will tutor at my house or at the residence of the student, whichever is the most comfortable environment for the student and most conducive for learning.
My tutoring style is pretty basic. I figure out where the student is struggling and try different approaches until I find one that gives him or her a better understanding of what needs to be accomplished. I then use repetition for as long as needed in order to completely grasp a concept. I thoroughly enjoy tutoring math and feel there is nothing better than helping people of all ages have a better understanding themselves. Scott is a very good tutor. He was very patient with my daughter and he gave her the boost she needed.
He was willing to take the time to teach her in a way that she could understand. I would use him again in a heart beat if we needed a tutor.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I played basketball in high school and in college. I have coached basketball for the past two years.
