I have a vision for my students where every student is enthused about mathematics, sees the value and beauty of mathematics and is empowered by the opportunities mathematics affords.
I strive to create high expectations for students I work with and offer opportunities for them to see mathematics as important for their lives and the careers they pursue. With the student we work at developing and implementing mathematics instruction that is coherent, focused and consistent with current research and focused on increasing their learning. I promote techniques which increase the reasoning, sense making, problem solving and communication of their mathematical skills.
In addition, I have a background in fine arts and Architecture. My extensive experience applying mathematical principles to design and build buildings has proved an invaluable tool in the classroom. Students really respond to seeing the real-life application of mathematics.
I am certified in Massachusetts to teach Middle School Mathematics 5 – 8 and Secondary Mathematics 9– 12. I have ten-plus years experience teaching Middle School and High School Mathematics. In addition to regular classroom settings, I have taught in inclusive and self-contained collaborative classes as the math teacher in collaboration with the special education teacher. I have taught an array of courses including honors, college preparatory and standard level math classes. I have taught in small group and one-on-one settings with at–risk students who had previously failed the MCAS test, with high success.
Success in any field comes from trial and error. It is always my pleasure to help develop confidence from the learning of skills you need.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have have taught Algebra 1 in both Middle School and High School, I have also taught Algebra 2, College Prep, and Pre-Calculus in High School. Understanding the basic concepts and the skills needed to succeed in these subjects is fundamental. Confidence comes from having these basic needs.

The study of Geometry is interesting because in fact, it is really about the world around you. I have a unique view of teaching geometry because not only have I taught the subject in High School, but I am an Architect who is practicing its concepts in the real world.
Pre-algebra is the starting of a whole new world that your student is entering into in Math. Getting a solid foundation in the basic skills needed to succeed is so important. Teaching a range of students from sixth grade through seniors I understand the skills they will require and how to teach them. My skills and experience will help your student to succeed.
