Hi folks! I’m coming back to Wyzant after a few years working for a test prep company in the Boston area, so please forgive the newness of my profile!

First, a bit about me. I graduated from Oberlin College in 2010 and completed a fellowship in political organizing at Harvard University's EJ Safra Center for Ethics in 2015. My tutoring background is in test prep and study skills. Tutoring and coaching teenagers is an enduring passion of mine that I've now returned to full-time.

I help my students maximize their test scores by combining the best of high-end test prep with a healthy dose of study skills like time management, goal setting and mindfulness.

As a classroom teacher and tutor at the Princeton Review, I was named the "Rookie of the Year." I taught SAT prep for prestigious summer programs including MS2 at Phillips Academy, Andover, and Summerfuel at Tufts University. I went on to work as a private and small group tutor at leading test prep companies in the Boston area. My impressive score improvement averages and talent for mentoring my students makes me popular with my students, and their parents!

I also served as the academic support coordinator and study skills teacher at the Waldorf High School of Massachusetts Bay, teaching PSAT and SAT test prep courses and designing support plans for students with learning differences including ADHD, dyslexia, non-verbal learning disability, executive function challenges, anxiety and depression.

I’ve passed the Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL) in Communications and Literacy Skills: Reading and Writing; Foundations of Reading; and Political Science and Philosophy. Additionally, I completed the Landmark School's professional development courses "Language-Based Learning Disabilities and the Neuropsychological Evaluation" and "Language-Based Learning Disabilities: Strategies for Success." I draw on my 200-hour yoga certification with clinical psychologist Bo Forbes to help my students build stress management skills.

Dynamic, energetic, structured probing tutor

We had screened 3 tutors and liked Katherine the most. She came across very structured, brought good practice exercises, had a good approach to cover the different topics. What we liked most is that in a nice way she always asked questions to probe for real understanding. As opposed to just explain the topic/answer and ask: did you understand? In which case most kids say yes, even if they did not. fer the first lesson we also got a sense that she was good at building a relationship with our daughter. She is dynamic, energetic, purposeful and focused. Her price tag is steep but we hope it will be a good investment.
