I have been a Title One ELA Tutor in a large public middle school for nine years. I specialize in teaching one on one and in small group settings. I have a master's degree in elementary education, but have taught middle schoolers and find that I really enjoy teaching that age group as much as I do younger children. My area of expertise is reading and writing at every age level and my greatest strength is passing on my love of reading and writing to the students. I teach every area of the ELA curriculum from phonics to creative writing to critical reading. Within those categories, my greatest goal is to instill a love of reading in all my students and to make sure they realize that becoming a great reader isn't just about being able to get great grades -- it's also about expanding their world of knowledge, of escaping reality at times and entering the universe that the characters of books live in. In addition to striving for accuracy, fluency and reading for content, students will want to learn to read for pleasure and to gather information.
I have access to hundreds of materials to help students to become proficient or well beyond proficient readers. From literature series to workbooks to common core standards worksheets to writing exercises, my materials can fit any student that I have for tutoring services.
I have loved to read since I was a small child and have always tried to instill that love of reading to all of my students in a way that many teachers are unable to do. I have seen many incredible results through my teaching and am confident that I can help any child to become a stronger reader. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I received my master's degree in elementary education and am certified in Massachusetts to teach those grades 1-6. I have taught remedial reading in grades 5-6 for the past 9 years at a middle school. I teach reading and writing and have access to countless materials and reading programs. Most importantly, I am passionate about teaching reading and writing and try to get my students to love reading as much as I do.
I have my master's degree in elementary education with a concentration in reading. I have taught/tutored remedial reading for the past nine years and have worked with many phonics/reading programs during that time including Reading A-Z, Hooked on Phonics, Orton-Gillingham, PowerUp, Fountas and Pinnell materials, as well as countless others. I use many fun techniques for teaching reading and keeping children engaged as they become more fluent readers.
