About Ruth

I love teaching. I have been teaching in two adult education programs. I have a Master's Degree in education and Massachusetts Teacher Licensure in ESOL. I teach ESOL to refugee immigrants as they arrive in the U.S., in a school setting, according to state standards. I have taught a diverse group of students; Hispanics from Central America, African, Middle Easterners, and Asians. I have taught Level 1, Beginning ESOL Level 3, Intermediate ESOL, and Level 1 Literacy.

I have an excellent command of English and how to teach it. I have a slow and clear speaking voice with a Western Mass accent that is close to standard English. I will use mime and dramatics to help students learn successfully. I have many paper and electronic books and resources to help students learn English as fast as they want to. I can help with understanding lectures or homework. I am flexible with location and scheduling for tutoring sessions.
I am available by email to discuss your personal situation and to plan a course of lessons to increase your English speaking competence.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
