Hello. My name is Meenu! I'm a Mount Holyoke College grad with a degree in Neuroscience. I have 10+ years experience teaching mostly Math to students in grades 6-10. I started at a charter school preparing students for the Math MCAS and ended my career as a teacher in the public school system where I worked as a Math Interventionist and then a classroom teacher. I have had the pleasure of learning from some amazing educators and I thoroughly believe in providing the highest level of teaching to my students.
I currently work as a Business Analyst which is not as dynamic as teaching but I do enjoy my work. It involves math, data and analysis which are all areas that keep my interest. I have been tutoring since I left teaching in 2014 and truly appreciate the opportunity to continue working with kids.
What I love most about tutoring is having the opportunity to work one on one with kids and specializing my lessons to fit their needs. I am always open to feedback and do my best to incorporate different modalities into my lessons. Seeing the light bulb go off in a child's mind is a reward that has no comparison.
My tutoring practice is to stay connected with a child's teachers in the subject areas (s)he is struggling in at school. I believe my responsibility as a tutor is to support the teachers and topics that are in the school district's curriculum. After all, if my tutoring is not helping the child do better or enhancing the child's learning than it is probably not going to be effective in the long run.
With Math and all subjects, I believe that it is important to teach to the student's learning style. Some kids learn better by drawing models or using manipulatives, while others rely more on memorizing and traditional methods. My job as a tutor is to align my teaching style to how the student learns using differentiated instruction methodology.
I am happy to work with parents, caregivers, students, and teachers to best support the education process. I think student success is the priority and will do my best to meet specific needs. I believe that all children are capable of learning at high levels and a positive outlook is vital in the learning process.
