Westfield State University (Elementary Education)
I have experience teaching in the classroom. I have taught a variety of grades Kindergarten, 1st grade, 3rd grade, and 4th grade. I have tutored before, it was high school math. I love tutoring because it is an amazing thing to see students start off struggling and see the progress they make. Tutoring is something to help your student really learn and understand the subject matter at hand and be able to get the one-on-one attention they need. As a future teacher I can understand how hard it is to help students especially when you have 25-30 of them to care for. So being able to get help from a tutor is just the extra special care in their education that they need.
This is why I wanted to become a teacher. I think it is important for students to love and really appreciate their education and their educational values. With all the courses and hard work that I put in to be able to help our young and developing minds of the youth. I really enjoy seeing the moment of understanding and the look they get when they finally click with the information.
I have taken many classes on reading and how to teach it. Also working with students in guided reading groups is very informational for me to see how students can progress.
I have worked with the common core standards thought out my bachelors degree for the past 4 years. Every lesson I make has to be related to the common core so I know and understand the qualifications that are needed to help them.
I graduated with a degree in elementary education. So I was able to take 6 classes a semester that taught and guided me to be able to help all my students and their needs.
My concentration was in history. I love it, by far my favorite subject. I love how there is so much information and different sides to every story that you can learn from. I took a wide variety of history courses.
I am a very friendly person who is willing to listen to your child's needs. I am very flexible with their learning styles and understands that eveyone learns differently. I also have a flexible schedule and work summer hours so during the summer your student can stay on top of their school work and work on anything they might not understand. I can also look up the Massachusetts standards for their grade level and see what they will be learning about. Or if you have a specific area your student needs I can work with that. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
