History

American History,

American History

I can teach US History from 1600s through 1960s. Main area of expertise is the American Civil War. As a Civil War Reenactor I can provide a unique approach to the subject. History is fun. Also very strong in Local History which is a subject almost never covered at schools.
Government & Politics,

Government & Politics

I am deeply familiar with Federal, State, and Local Government. Starting with the US Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
Music History,

Music History

As a substitute teacher, I have to have a lot to draw on. One of my multi-part lectures is the History of Rock N Roll. Yes, this class involves listening to music. I start with the invention of the electric guitar. And then we listen to examples of influences of rock like blues, skiffle, shuffle, boogie woogie, country, rockabilly, gospel and folk. All of these examples can easily be found on Youtube. Then we will move on to the 50s and 60s, featuring Chuck Berry. He is the real godfather of Rock N Roll. The guitar solo is a huge part of rock n roll. Next we will discuss Elvis. The frontman is another huge element. Then we will move on to the Beatles. The quartet is another big element. Along the way we will listen to and discuss many other acts. In a sense, I will train your ears to pick out different elements of a song. For example, you will be able tell the difference between a George Harrison guitar solo and a John Lennon solo. The difference in style between a Lennon and a McCartney song.
Sociology

Sociology

I have a degree in Sociology from the University of Massachusetts. I can teach you Sociology 101 and give you a basic understanding of the study of human behavior. If you are interested or already take Sociology I can help you.Can help with test prep or essay editing. In the school I work at, Sociology is taught by a member of the History department. It is a fun Junior elective. In college it gets much harder. I can help you get a head start.

Music

Guitar,

Guitar

I have played guitar for more than twenty years. I have taught many students in my time. Most of these students went on to become competent guitarists. I will work from any book of your choice. Most of the beginner level guitar books are fine. I will start by showing you how to tune your guitar. Then we will start with some basic chords. The first songs most people learn are standards like Old Macdonald and easy tunes like that. Then we will move on to scales and more advanced playing.
