Emily was able to jump right in and save my son from giving up German. When he began a new school, there was a huge gap between the material covered in the old school vs the new school. It seemed completely hopeless and he was about to give up German and start a new language. With Emily's help he is now caught up with the new school. He is so fortunate to have found Emily and he is actually enjoying his German class now. Emily could not be a more perfect tutor than she is. She is polite, professional, punctual, reliable, and really knows the German language. She possesses all the qualities of a teacher and will always be respected by those she teaches. Thank you Emily, you are awesome!!
Emily has been a great German tutor for our three daughters. She was always prepared and very creative. And even brought gifts!
We can't thank you enough, Emily, for everything you have done for us this year-- you are a superb tutor in addition to just being a wonderful person. Hope you have an excellent summer, and look forward to seeing you again in the fall!
I just finished up 3 months of French lessons with Emily in preparation for my first trip to France. Emily is an amazing teacher and incredibly talented in the French language. She can easily gauge what level one is at and subsequently tailors the lessons to that level. While I set the "curriculum" of what I wanted to learn, Emily always came with additional materials to help increase vocabulary and/or grammar. I am excited to try out my newly learned phrases on my trip and I attribute my confidence to the work Emily guided me through. Thank you so much Emily!
I've been meeting with Emily for over a month now. Not only is she a great tutor (responsible, prompt, pro-active) but her understanding and appreciation of the French language and culture is so extensive, that I always come out of my lesson more knowledgeable, but also inspired. We have fun and I learn... very happy!
We have been really happy having Emily work with our daughter. Our daughter looks forward to her lessons and Emily really helps support the learning and interest our daughter has in the French language. Emily is always on time, is accommodating to the chaos a home with pets has, and is patient and enthusiastic. We are thrilled with the work they are doing together.
My mom loved her lesson and thought you were wonderful. She said you were a pleasure to learn from and looks forward to her next session.
Emily helped my daughter prepare for a trip to Vienna. She taught her the basic skills to communicate in German. She was well prepared, prompt, patient. Emily made her lessons enjoyable and informative. She's the full package and I would highly recommend her!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been studying French since 1999 and majored in French Studies at the University of Pennsylvania, where I won the highest departmental award as a senior. Most recently, I spent the academic year of 2010-2011 teaching English in France-about an hour east of Paris. I also spent an academic semester in Lyon in 2008. I have traveled extensively around France and love speaking the language.
I began studying German independently after a month-long trip to Germany in 2005. I started coursework at the University of Pennsylvania in 2006, and subsequently won three departmental awards for excellence in Germanic studies. In 2007, I spent 6 weeks studying German intensively in a summer program in Berlin. I also lived and studied in Berlin for 5 months in 2009. I am passionate about the language and can also speak to Germany-a wonderful place to visit!
