I am a certified 5-8 math teacher and I have taught both 6th and 7th grade math.
As a young student, I struggled. I was not someone that learned easily by reading textbooks or listening to my teachers lessons. I was a mess. I could never find what I was looking for, would forget about assignments and lose those that I had completed. I had absolutely no confidence in myself. Fortunately, as I got older and through a great amount of trial and error, I found strategies for both learning and organizing that worked for me.
After this long journey to becoming an organized, confident, self-learner, I found that I had a real passion for helping others find a way of learning and organizing that best suits them. If you can give a child confidence that they are able to learn then they will be more willing to learn. It is a great cycle - the more you learn, the more confident you become, the more confident you become, the more you want to learn!
I love to work with students to help them build their math and science skills. as well as, teach them skills to become strong independent learners.
Math can be a scary subject for so many people, young and old. A good foundation is the key to math success. Without a good foundation of number sense and basic math calculations (addition, subtraction, division and multiplication), higher level math can be extremely frustrating and confusing. Once your basic skills are in place then it is time to move onto the next level.
Math needs to be connected to the real world and hands on learning helps students to grasp abstract topics.
I look forward to working with you! Students might not learn in the same way or on the same day, but EVERY student can learn. The key is to find the right learning style that works for you, to build your confidence, to break down road blocks and to organize yourself to show off your new knowledge! I am a certified 5-8 math teacher and I have taught both 6th and 7th grade math.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught students with ADD/ADHD for 10 years. I am also diagnosed with ADD and therefore understand the challenges that students with ADD/ADHD face. Most students with ADD/ADHD are tactile learners and making learning hands on and relevant is essential. Often times organization skills and time management can be a real challenge and I have developed many different solutions to help meet each individual child's needs.
I am certified in grades 5-8 math. I understand the content that is needed in the elementary setting in order to be prepared for middle school math.
While working in the computer industry for 7 years, I used Microsoft Publisher to make the service manuals for our customized computer software. Each manual was different as the software was developed to follow the client's workflows. Manuals could range in size from less than a hundred to a few hundred pages. The manuals included charts, graphics, tables and custom directions.
I use Microsoft Word to create lesson plans, worksheets and letters in my classroom.
I am a firm believer that all students can learn, but maybe not in the same way and in the same time as others. I have been working with students with special needs for 7 years and have developed strategies to help students been successful in a way that works for them. I am a very patient teacher and feel that many time my students teach me just as much as I teach them.
