Bio

I worked for 24 years with the New England Regional Office of the College Board and in my semi-retirement have several years of private SAT tutoring experience. My approach is to build on areas a student feels confident about and develop the ones s/he is having difficulty with. There are no gimmicks or tricks, just one-on-one discussion and coming to know the SAT based on many years of working with students and teachers in classrooms and instructional development. This is work I enjoy - I always involve students and their families in developing a custom program for each student.

I have worked with a wide range of students; from high achieving kids trying to gain admissions to very competitive colleges, as well as students who have difficulty showing their abilities on standardized tests. I have a special interest in working with potential collegiate athletes who are interested in improving their SAT scores to meet NCAA or other standards for admission.

Before I started tutoring I was the head of Academic Services at the College Board in New England and also was the Academic Dean and teacher at a high school in Vermont. I have also taught English and Mathematics courses at the college level. I call on my academic work in educational psychology and learning theory (PhD degree) to help understand the needs of every student I work with.

Great Find

Fred was very accommodating to my daughters schedule. His insight into the SAT was extremely helpful. He provided helpful tips and techniques to taking the test. I have already passed on his contact information to the guidance counselor.

Thoughtful and insightful

Was able to pinpoint areas of weakness and give an overall plan and structure to learn going forward. Thank you very much.
