About Melanie

I am a certified elementary teacher, with a special education background. Currently, I teach grade 4 full time, and am a wife and mother of three beautiful children. I have a bachelor's degree in elementary education and a master's degree in special education. I am certified in the Wilson Reading Program which is a program designed to teach reading and phonics skills to students with reading difficulties and dyslexia. I have seen this program change students' lives and make them go from nonreaders to readers in a few short months! This program can encourage a student to finally have a love of reading and build his/her confidence.

Teaching for me is a way of life. I enjoy tutoring outside of my full time job because it keeps me fresh and connected to individual needs and students. Tutoring individual students allows me to use my special education training and expertise to help students who otherwise are not getting services in school or did not qualify for services. Teaching in any form is such an important and powerful job that can have such an impact on a student's life!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
