Hi There! My name is Stephanie and I have been a special education teacher for 6 years. I have experience with severe and moderate learning disabilities, and I specialize in making learning fun and accessible for all levels and abilities. I am creative, and I do my best to get to know my students and what their interests are, in order to create lesson plans designed with them in mind, facilitating a love of learning. My goal is to ensure that all my students have fun and feel that they are capable of learning, even when the material is challenging.
My strengths include: Organization/ Study Tips, Public Speaking and Presentations, MCAS up to 8th grade, Reading/Literacy, Writing, General Sciences up to 10th grade, General Elementary Math up to 8th grade, Strategies for Memorization and Focus, Computer Skills (typing, basic computer knowledge, navigation, etc), Moderate Learning Disabilities, Severe Learning Disabilities, and Vocational Skills/Coaching.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I currently teach at an elementary school, as a TA for a 5th grade class. I work 1:1 with a child with severe ADD/ADHD and help modify his lessons and maintain his attention to the work presented. I develop strategies to assist in learning throughout his day, with a focus on writing and math.
Through 6 years of teaching experience in a school specializing in Severe Autism, I have working knowledge and techniques for Behavior Management, Daily Living Skills, Vocational Skills, and Academic skills. I also specialize in communication, using a variety of strategies and technology to enhance receptive and expressive communication.
I have worked in a school setting for 6 years, serving children ages 6-22. I have extensive experience with elementary age children, teaching, tutoring, babysitting. Most recently, I have consulted with various families with children grades K-6 for special education services, strategies, and grade level academic support.
I have taken and passed the MTEL state teaching tests in Reading, Writing, and General Elementary Education subjects (science, history, geology)
I have a masters In Severe Special Ed. (M.ED) - Levels PreK-12.
My Student Teaching Practicum was in a 2-3 grade classroom with children with various disabilities including: ADD, ADHD, Executive Functioning disorders, CP, Downs, and Autism.
I have experience teaching kids with autism the fundamentals of writing, including handwriting, tracing and drawing.
Passing Scores in the Reading Comprehension and Writing MTEL (Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure).
