My name is Jenny and I am a First Grade Reading Specialist in Weston. In addition to teaching, I have had my own tutoring business for 6 years. I am experienced in tutoring children in grades K-6 in all subjects, with a specialty in English Language Arts. I graduated from BU with a degree in English Literature, and later received my Masters of Education in Elementary Education from Cambridge College. I enjoy working with children one-on-one because it gives both me and the student to really get to know each other. This bond helps me tailor my lessons to the child's specific needs. My love for reading and learning new things is evident in my teaching and interactions with all!
I am available afternoons after 3pm, and in the summer have a wide open schedule. I typically recommend hour long sessions, but of course we can decide together what is best for your child. My rate is $60/hour, and I am more than happy to travel to your house. Feel free to contact me with any questions or for more details.
I look forward to meeting you!
I have been working with children K-6 in math for 6 years. I am experienced in starting with basic number sense all the way through beginning middle school math including algebra and geometry. To prepare for my lessons, I follow the Common Core. I also consult classroom teachers to get a better sense of the child as a whole.
Before obtaining my Masters in Education, I pursued my undergraduate degree in English Literature with a minor in Creative Writing. Reading has been a lifelong love of mine since I was a child being read to by my parents. I also write daily, and frequently take adult education writing classes in everything from publishing children's picture books to poetry. I currently have my dream job as a Reading Specialist working with both kindergarten and first grade students.
The school system I work in follows the Common Core, and are all expected to be masterful in creating our lessons accordingly.
Since I tutor some very young children, working on fine motor skills is often a basic skill that we practice. Handwriting is a great example of putting those fine motor skills into practical application.
I have great energy and passion for what I do, and I look forward to sharing that with you and your child! Hi,

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I received my Masters degree in Elementary Education K-6 from Cambridge College. Since then, for the past 10 years I have worked in elementary schools. Presently, I am working as a Reading Specialist for grades K and 1. I also tutor children grade levels K-6 in all subjects.
In my job as a Reading Specialist, I use the Fountas and Pinnell Levelled Literacy Intervention program with my elementary K-3 students. In each lesson, there is a phonics piece that corresponds to particular books we are also working on. For example, consonant clusters and vowel teams are what my first graders are currently studying with me.
One of the main obstacles I have encountered with older students is a lack of organization skills. In my tutoring business I teach children how to organize their specific tasks both daily and weekly. I also work a lot with graphic organizers, and teaching how to write outlines for written assignments and projects.
