About Samuel

Since the time I was in grade school, I have had a passion for learning and teaching. On one occasion in Kindergarten, my father (also a teacher) came into my class to talk about his job, but had trouble being heard, because I kept standing up to take over from him! Later in middle school, I volunteered to act as a tutor to a student from a lower grade, and I quickly became addicted to the stoking of curiosity and talents involved in teaching and tutoring. At age 16, I began volunteering at the Center of Science and Industry as an instructor in human biology and I fell in love with witnessing the spark of understanding and wonder in the eyes of those I taught.

Later in high school, I was diagnosed with ADHD. But rather than being a detriment to my life, ADHD has made me acutely aware of the issues facing students struggling with schoolwork and has granted me extensive experience developing strategies to help cope with learning disabilities. As a result, my ADHD has not held me back in the least, and I am committed to making the same true for struggling students with or without learning disabilities.

Upon leaving high school, I was accepted into the Ohio State University. I continued my passion of tutoring by helping fellow students struggling through history and other social science courses. Meanwhile, my love of learning resulted in my acceptance into the honors program and I graduated from Ohio State with honors and cum laude in both my degrees of history and anthropology. I was now set on becoming a professor of history, and after a grueling application process I was accepted to Brandeis University's history PhD program with a full tuition paid fellowship and a monthly stipend. I teach undergraduate history courses and have extensive experience assisting students one-on-one.

I did anthropological research in college and I use my knowledge of anthropology to add new perspectives to my historical research.

Anthropology is the study of humans. What could be more interesting or relevant than that?

I have extensive experience teaching history and doing historical research. If would like more details about what I research, please do not hesitate to contact me!

Never forget: history is simply a series of stories that we tell to understand ourselves. Who does not like stories, right?

Putting aside my experience, the most important thing to know about me is this: I turn studying and learning into methods of self-discovery and reflection. Although I can not promise to make your material interesting, I can guarantee that you will no longer dread schoolwork. At the risk of sounding like an advertisement, let me help you out. Contact me to schedule a lesson or ask any questions.
