Hello,

I am a friendly and knowledgeable math and science tutor. I have ten years of experience tutoring and teaching.

I have a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and a master’s degree in Education from the Boston Teacher Residency.

I enjoy helping students broaden their knowledge and skills and to succeed in their classes, exams, and careers.

Since earning my bachelor's degree I have taught science to a wide range of students, in both formal and informal settings, here in Massachusetts and abroad. I began as a teacher in an after-school program at a small non-profit organization in Cambridge, and later became the program director at a second, similar organization. I spent a short time teaching high school chemistry in Nepal, before coming home to earn my master's degree through the Boston Teacher Residency. In the Boston Teacher Residency I taught 7th grade biology and geology at the Timilty Middle School. After graduating, I traveled to Africa, and taught 10th grade chemistry at a boarding school in Somaliland. Through all of these experiences I have been happiest when I can work one-on-one with a student and support them in the learning process.

As a tutor, I strive to see things from my student's point of view, to explain concepts clearly, and to break down complex tasks into simple steps.

Math and science courses can be difficult, but having an experienced tutor can make it enjoyable and rewarding.

I look forward to working with you!

- Toby

Fantastic tutor

Hi! I'm hoping I didn't press 1 star instead of 5, as Toby is a 5. He is prompt to respond to requests and communications, he is flexible, patient, and knowledgeable. My daughter has benefited already from his able tutoring.

Flexible and Patient Tutor

Toby taught my friend and I organic chemistry in a fast paced summer course. While the material was confusing, he broke everything down into simplest terms and made us feel at ease. We both got A's in the class. Thank you, Toby!

Excellent tutor

Toby was just excellent. My son had failed college calculus and was retaking it during the winter term. Toby met with him about twice a week throughout the course and helped him work through the complex material. My son ended up with a B+ in the class. There is no way he could've done it without Toby .
