Jenn is amazing. We were looking for a reading specialist that could help our 1st grade son with his reading deficiency. She met with him and immediately made a connection. Our son does not open up easily, but from day 1, he has been willing to work hard for her – which was all she asked of him when they met.
In our search for a tutor, we knew we needed to find someone that specialized in reading. Not only did she meet that, she brought even more experience to the table than we could ever have hoped for. She jumped right in and baseline tested him. Her plans have been detailed. Her feedback to us has been very timely and informative. We ultimately share these reports with his teacher so she can follow his progress as well.
In addition, it has been clear from the beginning that Jenn was willing to give everything to us and our son to make this a successful experience. She went so far as to meet with his teacher to understand more about him and his school work, environment and ultimately his struggles. That is the compassion that I think makes this a perfect fit for us. The one on one time is well worth the cost and time that is devoted to this process.
Our son has not only shown tremendous improvement in his reading skill set, but his confidence has grown as well. This has been in the short time of a few months! We have been very fortunate to find Jenn. And our experience has been nothing short of remarkable.
We highly recommend Jenn to anyone!
My 7 year old son has worked with Jennifer for six months. Despite being bright, he couldn't master phonemic awareness and phonics through his instruction at school alone. He felt stupid and avoided books at all costs. Now he has begun to read proudly and states that 'Journal Time' is his favorite activity at school. He walks down the hallway with his nose buried in a book!
What helped immeasurably was Jennifer T's ability to pinpoint instruction to his exact level. She scaffolded lessons so that he was always successful and encouraged him to stretch to the next level. She provides him with games, activities, physical touch cues and even dance moves to help him master phonemic awareness! He has so much fun, he wants to go to tutoring (and this is a very active little boy!). She has provided me with resources to better my own understanding and consistently provides us activities and materials to help us at home.
I am an educator myself and felt helpless that I could not help my own child learn to read. We needed an expert and feel blessed we found one. Best of all, my son found not only a teacher but also a cheerleader and a friend.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
