Hello! Thank you for considering me for the position of your personal Art Tutor.
I am an award-winning cartoonist and talented illustrator with over 20 years of professional experience. Drawing has been a favorite interest of mine from an early age; doodling in sketch pads and school books and creating a comic strip at 12. During my school years I used my art ability to earn extra credit in classes and achieved various art awards. I opened a commercial art studio in 1991 and in 1996 I was awarded 1st Prize in the Massachusetts Press Association's Annual Newspaper Contest. Throughout my professional career, I have taught art, either through after-school programs or from my own studio.
What I liked most about teaching in my studio is the smaller number of students. I could accommodate a maximum number of 10, allowing for a more personal approach, and greater attention to each student. A relationship was forged and students often signed up for subsequent classes. I enjoy the enthusiasm of students studying a subject in which they have a strong interest, and in seeing the progress of each student in his/her abilities as the class runs its course.
My method as tutor, and in fact, when I teach in general, is to observe where the student is at in terms of ability and breadth of interest and experience in various media, let the student decide the area of focus and proceed at a pace that is comfortable to the student.
I will be an honor for me to assist you in your exploration of Art and in the development of your talent.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Drawing is second-nature to me; I have been at it since I was quite young, winning art contests in grammar school. I created a comic strip at 10 and at 35 I was awarded First Prize from the Massachusetts Press Association for cartoons I submitted to the local weekly newspaper. I possess a B.A. in Art and have operated a commercial art studio for over 20 years.
