I have a Bachelor's Degree in English and a Master's Degree in Teaching English Grades 5-8, both from UMass Dartmouth. At UMass Dartmouth I was a level II certified tutor and spent considerable time working with students of various writing and reading abilities, from ESL learners to helping with dissertations. During my teaching career I worked with students who were below grade level in writing and reading ability in an attempt to bring them up the same level as their peers.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
