About Stephanie

I am a fifth year elementary school teacher. I taught second grade for two years and am currently teaching my third year of fifth grade. I hold an Elementary 1-6 teaching license as well as a Mathematics 1-6 teaching license. For the last two school years, I have been in charge of planning weekly standards-based small group math interventions. I have also run Saturday school math intervention sessions, morning school math intervention sessions, and February/April vacation math intervention sessions. I have a strong knowledge of the elementary math standards and am able to present the material in a variety of ways, depending on how the specific student learns best. I have tutored a variety of students from first graders to fifth graders.

The main reason I feel my tutoring lessons are beneficial is because I get to know the learner and begin my sessions by meeting the student where they are. If a fifth grade student is lacking fourth or even third grade math skills, I feel it is important to build these skills and understanding before targeting grade-level skills. I have seen that many times, grade-level teachers feel they don't have time to remediate math skills from previous grades and therefore solely focus on grade-level standards. However, I feel it is extremely important to remediate these skills. During my tutoring lessons, I present information in a variety of ways and introduce multiple strategies to support the learner. One-on-one instruction is the best way to target a weakness!

I work my hardest to make each learner successful with mathematics and have fun while learning!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
