Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I have been a professional elementary school teacher since 2012 (including two positions within Chicago Public Schools), wherein all of my lesson planning and professional evaluations have been based in the Common Core Standards. As a candidate for a Master's Degree in Education from Northwestern, I use the Standards frequently for curriculum and assessment design. I am also familiar with much of the literacy and mathematics research that supports the Common Core methods and practices.

Elementary (K-6th)

In 2013, I was a full-time faculty member of the UNO Sandra Cisneros Elementary School in Chicago. I was an assistant teacher to a 4th grade class and supported students in the special education program.

Also in 2013, I ran an afterschool tutoring group for 3rd-5th graders for Edison learning. I taught from their primer and developed my own lessons for math, reading, and writing.

Currently, I am a master's in elementary education candidate at Northwestern University and expect to graduate with a IL teaching license in 2015.
