I am an innovative and motivating 6th grade special education teacher. I currently teach math and science as well as organization skills. My most successful technique is relating subject matter to real world applications - making concepts more accessible as well as entertaining. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am an experienced Middle School special education teacher. I have assisted numerous students for whom organizational and study skills is a weakness. Understanding that these "skills" need to be taught and developed in a consistent and supportive manner, students are encouraged to develop a system that works for them. My goal has been to demonstrate that the effort and discipline of properly recording assignments and filing day to day work appropriately has an academic benefit as well as making their school day more manageable. While I have developed a range of approaches to support study skills, student ownership in this process is the most essential component for success. My goal has always been to help students become confident learners, finding ways to connect and help them "buy in" to the process.
