I have been teaching kids karate for nearly six years and my qualifications range through a few different subjects. My major at Emmanuel College is English, but I have minors in Philosophy and Theology and have spent a dedicated amount of time studying history and have recently begun being educated in theater.
My tutoring style is much like my teaching style, namely, make students learn the material they need to, but let them have fun with it. I see no point in a student learning if they can't retain what they learn and unless they have some reason to be interested in learning, they won't.
In addition to the subjects studied above, I have been studying Education at Emmanuel for three years and have completed the main component of the Massachusetts Test for Educator Licensure (MTEL) as well as the English subject test and I intend to take more tests to prove competency in other subject areas over the summer.

For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been playing chess for nearly fifteen years now. While I have no formal training or professional rank or score, I have been playing more or less consistently since I first learned. Many of my friends use me as a learning resource.

I also write semi-professionally as a media reviewer for The Hub, Emmanuel's student-run college newspaper.
