About Judith

I am a graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, NJ. I have a B.A. in English Language and Literature. I have taught every grade between 7th and 12th in the last 8 years (more than one grade level at a time). I had the immense privilege to teach abroad in a bilingual international school, and now I am putting all my teaching talents to good use in Western Massachusetts.

I love helping students through tutoring because I know that sometimes, class time isn't enough to fully understand something, or to have that light bulb moment, you know, the moment when your whole face lights up because you understand the concept on a level that is so much more than just recorded, that moment when a lesson becomes something you will always have with stowed away.

Tutors help students get there. As a teacher I clearly see that in my own students; I see how the extra help makes them extraordinary! This is why I take time out to tutor, to help build extraordinary people.

My standards are high when it comes to what I expect from my students. I go in with complete confidence that the students are all capable of the highest quality of work, but I believe that shines in a low pressure environment. The more comfortable we both are, the easier it will be to learn.

I like to associate lessons with pop culture and current events, taking information that students are already familiar with and adding to it is a great way to build esteem.
I enjoy reading fiction novels, and some biographical novels, I am dabbing into graphic novels, but still not crazy about it. I love Marvel and DC superheroes, although all of my knowledge about them is from the internet not the comics. I dabble in writing poetry, and drawing. I love Broadway; if I wasn't a teacher,I would take my shot on the Broadway stage.

I have been enamored with all things literature and writing related since I can remember. This deep love fuels my goal, which is to make others appreciate it as much as I do. Coupled with my educational qualifications and years of experience, I can assuredly say I am a dynamite tutor.

My entire career has consisted of working with high school students; primarily 11 and 12th graders. This encouraged me to familiarize myself with the general expectation of colleges when it comes to their applicants. I have helped many students fill out the common app for colleges and even helped with FAFSA forms.

I have also worked with my students to figure out what their passions are and what course they would like to take in regards to career choices. I like to analyze all aspects of what going to college entails, and finding something that really fits, so that the students continue their course til it is done, not stray from it after it starts.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
