##### About Jonathan

I began tutoring students in high school as volunteer work for a club. I had no intentions of continuing my tutoring endeavors after fulfilling the club's volunteering requirements. However, I discovered how gratifying it is to help students understand material in math and science that they once thought was impossible to learn, and increase both their grade and desire to learn more about the subject. Additionally, I believe that a small age difference between the tutor and student is a more effective learning environment, as the student is more open to asking questions when they don't understand something.

After tutoring for several years, I discovered that the most effective way for a student to learn is through practice, conceptual descriptions of complex topics, and intuitive analogies. Many, if not all students that I've tutored have had difficulty understanding the material they are being taught because it is completely foreign to them, and they have no intuition of the applications of solving quadratic equations or finding the derivative of a function. For example, I find that students who are able to understand the concept of a derivative are able to understand the methods for finding the derivative of a function much faster than a student who simply copies what their teacher puts on the board. I try to give my students a deeper understanding of the important fundamental topics they are being taught, so when they move on to more complex material, it is easier for them to learn it.

Math had always been my favorite subject in school. I was able to get ahead in my math courses in college due to credits received on the AP Calculus exam I took in high school, and I'm always interested in learning new mathematical concepts. I tutored in math ranging from Algebra I to Calculus in high school, and continued to help students while in college.

Physics has interested me from a young age, and was always a course I enjoyed taking due to its mathematical foundation. I have experience as a student in AP Physics in a high school setting, as well as tutoring experience for college Physics.

I am an organized and motivated engineering student who enjoys helping others understand the material they are learning in their math or science classes.
