I have always wanted to teach. My experience and travels have afforded me many opportunities to teach and tutor students of different ages in CT, VA, SC and Japan. I have been affiliated with several agencies serving students in reading, math, language arts and conversational English. As a result, I have found tutoring to be very rewarding as I have observed my students gain knowledge, build confidence, sharpen skills and improve scores. I have enjoyed the journey that tutoring is taking me on.
I have an M.Ed in Elementary Education and a minor in Music. I have worked primarily with students in grades Prek-3, but am not limited to serving students in grades 3 through 5 as well. In addition, I have served students individually and in small group settings. It is very important to me that my students are comfortable and feel like they can take risks. Having been very shy as a child, I am sensitive to building relationships with my students. Additionally, my goal is to try to make learning fun and not overwhelming.
I am flexible and will try my best to make accommodations for each of my students. I welcome a free consultation with perspective students prior to starting sessions. I believe this approach will lessen any anxiety for my future students. With regards to my cancellation policy, I would prefer a 24 hour cancellation notice but would consider making up a session if you are unable to keep your appointment. My primary request is that you communicate any changes to me as soon as you can.
I have facilitated holding sessions in a variety of settings; however, I generally meet with my students at one of the local libraries. I will be more than happy to make modifications on a case by case basis when necessary.
It is my desire to serve you in the most professional and caring way. I love seeing my students make strides in learning and I look forward to working with you!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught all subject areas where applicable at the primary and elementary levels for many years within daycare, preschool and public school settings. In addition, I have serviced students in reading, language arts and math as a teacher, substitute teacher, tutor and instructor for afterschool programs and private tutoring agencies.
As an Elementary teacher I have taught handwriting to children in grades 1-3. I have used various handwriting programs depending on the school district and or state I was assigned to during that period. In grade 3, my students had workbooks as they transitioned to cursive handwriting.
As an Elementary teacher I have taught phonics to students in grades pre-k through 2. I have also done remedial work with children of all ages supporting phoenemic awareness and phonics instruction.
