About Elizabeth

I have had a passion for the Spanish language and culture for twenty years and I love sharing that passion and knowledge with others. Being a tutor is a perfect way for me to do this in a manner that is tailored specifically to the student's individual needs.

Whether you want help with high school or beginner-level Spanish, or you want to learn some quick conversational Spanish for an upcoming trip, or you want to focus on Spanish terms related to your profession, we can meet your needs. We can focus on building vocabulary, improving grammar, improving pronunciation, increasing comprehension, or learning to read and write in Spanish. The lessons will include visuals, worksheets, conversations, activities that translate into real-world situations, and practice with a native-speaker. Supplemental materials may be provided to use between sessions, free of charge, to increase your learning potential.

My experience with the Spanish language began in high school, where I took four years of beginner-level classes and excelled in each of them. I was able to test out of the college requirements for Spanish, but chose to pursue a double-major in Spanish and Sociology.

When I entered into college I was able to begin the 300-level Spanish classes as a Freshman due to my test results. Throughout my undergraduate studies, I earned A's in all of my Spanish classes, and was inducted into the Spanish Honor Society (Sigma Delta Pi). Since then I pursued a graduate studies program with a concentration in Latino Mental Health.

This included classes and presentations that were conducted in Spanish at a graduate level of study. The program also included two immersion trips, one to Ecuador and one to Costa Rica, each lasting for one month.

During the immersion projects I lived in a host family's home who did not speak English, and I attended Spanish classes and volunteered in a clinic whose clients were native speakers. Aside from my Spanish knowledge, I have also worked in the human services field for more than fifteen years teaching individuals new skills and practicing these skills with them. I am a patient, creative, and dedicated worker who wants to see each student meet his/her individual potential.

The schedule can be flexible, although I am available more on nights and weekends. I can accommodate mornings as well. If you have considered learning Spanish or improving your existing level of Spanish, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
