University of Massachusetts (Forestry and Educati)
Colorado State University (Master's)
I have been a public school teacher for 20 years in Connecticut, New York, New Hampshire, and most recently Massachusetts. In this position I have been a teacher of agriculture, horticulture, environmental science, natural resources, and landscaping. However, a passion of mine is foreign exchange and cultural integration and appreciation.
Due to this passion of foreign exchange, I have continually been involved in this concept. I was an exchange student, and have lived abroad in a variety of locations. Also, as a teacher I initiated foreign exchange programs. I placed, welcomed, orientated, and monitored students from around the world as they lived and learned in small New England towns. Also, I frequently host foreigners at my home with my family. We also provide English language lessons for our guests.
My current high school teaching position has students from 7 different countries in the program. I often use Spanish to convey material and other information. I love that my classroom is like the United Nations.
I have been teaching Botany through high school agriculture for 20 years. My undergrad degree is in Forestry and my master's is in Agricultural Sciences. Since the age of 14 I have been working on farms, landscaping, gardening, and growing!
I am a passionate English tutor because I know what it is like to be in a situation where you need and want to learn a language. Language learning will unlock the door to opportunities where you are living. I love helping people integrate and learn what they need to know to find success and happiness. Even though I am not certified in English, I have been teaching it conversationally for decades. Also, my wife is a certified English teacher of 20 years and provides any needed support ; free of charge!
My lessons are individually prepared for each person's language level and language needs.
My desire to help you learn English or Agriculture (gardening, botany, landscaping, etc.) will be enthusiastic and student centered. Lessons will focus on what you want to learn! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
