I am an experienced tutor and professional educator. I have tutored privately in the student's home and also through school affiliated programs. I have experience as a high school mathematics instructor, college level mathematics instructor, and middle school math and science tutor. I am currently employed full-time with a local school district and hold state certification.
I have been described as having a seemingly endless supply of patience. I have a strong understanding of learning styles and teaching strategies. My approach to tutoring can be described as "comfortable." As a tutor my job is to keep the student focused on the topic, to answer questions regarding the topic and to guide the learner towards the desired outcome/understanding. I am a fan of using leading questions and analogies as tools in the tutoring process. Also I like introducing the student to study aides and organizational strategies that may prove to help them as they progress as life-long learners. I do not have one set technique or framework that I use on a regular basis as each learner has a unique style, attitude and need all of which I like to accommodate.
I understand the process of learning through our current educational systems. I have degrees that prove my success as a student and employment history that showcases my ability to share that success with others. I am an experienced tutor and professional educator. Adam has been able to reach my son in ways we'd not been able to and has techniques that stick with him and he'll remember and (hopefully) apply! I would highly recommend Adam. He's so patient and kind and that's really important when trying to teach something that's difficult for a student with plenty of other stresses in his day!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
