Experienced, friendly, and supportive tutor

I am a college student with just over 6 years of experience working with students in preschool up through middle school teaching academic, social, and behavioral skills. I strive to create a learning experience for students that is as academically enriching as it is engaging. I believe that learning should be a process that is based in positive support, and I always put the needs of each individual student first. My experience includes working in a special education preschool, teaching students behavioral and social skills alongside lessons of preschool math and literacy (counting, basic addition and subtraction, rhyming, letters, etc.). Additionally, I spent one year tutoring 3rd and 4th grade students in their math homework once a week, helping them to understand challenging math concepts. Finally, I worked for 5 years as an assistant teacher at an after-school program, planning many educational activities, reading with students, and helping students with their homework. The students in this program ranged from kindergartners to fifth graders, and thus I am able to adapt lessons to different age groups and have experience in multiple educational settings. I have also had the great experience of working alongside a 3rd grade reading specialist in a pre-practicum setting for my special education class in college, and learned lots of helpful tools for teaching literacy.

My favorite subjects to teach are elementary school language arts and literacy, specifically reading and creative writing, but I am well versed in a variety of elementary school subjects. I understand well the different learning styles of every student and am happy and ready to adapt my lesson plans to best suit each student's needs. I love tutoring because of the important relationships I can build with my students, and I love to watch kids grow and thrive in a positive environment. I love to help children grow their academic knowledge while also building self-confidence in their own abilities and interests.
